William Byron lands 4-year extension at Hendrick Motorsports

William Byron is not going anywhere. He has signed a four-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports.

The championship-winning organization announced the news on Friday, ahead of a double-duty weekend for Byron. Hendrick Motorsports stated that he will remain in the No. 24 Chevrolet through the 2029 season.

"We've built something special with the No. 24 team," Byron said in a press release. "I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick.

"We've accomplished some great things that we're really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I'm excited to go after them with this team and this organization."

Byron has been in the Hendrick Motorsports fold since 20216. He won the 2017 Xfinity Series championship with JR Motorsports, and then he moved up to the Cup Series in 2018 to drive the No. 24.

The 2018 Rookie of the Year has spent his entire Cup Series tenure with Hendrick Motorsports. He has won 14 races and reached the playoffs seven times. Byron reached the Championship 4 in the last two seasons.

The two biggest wins for Byron have been in the season-opening race. He captured the 2024 Daytona 500 and scored his first crown jewel win. He then won this season's Daytona 500 and became the youngest multi-time winner of the event.

According to Spotrac, this is Byron's third extension since joining the Hendrick Motorsports lineup.

"William is the real deal," said team owner Rick Hendrick. "What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unrivaled work ethic.

"You see it in the great ones - the drivers who could get by on talent alone but choose to outwork everyone anyway. That's William. On top of it all, he's a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader. We're proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more wins together."

With this extension official, Byron can now move forward with the rest of the season. He already has a playoff spot on the strength of his Daytona 500 win, and he is second in the Cup Series standings heading into the Coca-Cola 600.
