Truck results at Bristol: Layne Riggs goes back-to-back


Layne Riggs has gone back-to-back in Craftsman Truck Series races after winning Thursday night's race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Corey Heim crossed the line second after a tight battle with Rajah Caruth. Christian Eckes and Nick Sanchez rounded out the top five. Ty Majeski in eighth and Tyler Ankrum in 10th were the only other playoff drivers to finish inside the top 10.

Taylor Gray ended the night in 12th place while Grant Enfinger was in 17th place. Ben Rhodes crossed the line 27th. Daniel Dye finished the worst out of the group due to a flat tire. He finished 32nd.

Riggs won his first career Craftsman Truck Series at Milwaukee Mile Speedway on Aug. 25. He was not part of the playoff field, but he bested the 10 drivers who had championship dreams.

The Front Row Motorsports driver repeated this feat Thursday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. He led 80 laps and held off Heim on multiple restarts during the final stage. He then celebrated at the Last Great Colosseum for the first time in his career.

Notable: Heim finished second after scoring 19 stage points. He locked up a spot in the Round of 8 on points. Eckes also secured his spot in the next round after scoring 17 stage points and finishing fourth. Sanchez scored 12 stage points and finished fifth, locking up a spot in the Round of 8 in the process.

Stage 1: Rajah Caruth won stage 1. Corey Heim, Christian Eckes, Connor Zilch, Nick Sanchez, Stewart Friesen, William Sawalich, Layne Riggs, Chase Purdy, and Daniel Dye were all top 10.

Taylor Gray in 17th, Ty Majeski in 20th, Tyler Ankrum in 21st, Ben Rhodes in 22nd, and Grant Enfinger in 24th were the playoff drivers who missed stage 1 points.

Stage 2: Corey Heim won stage 2. Christian Eckes, Rajah Caruth, Layne Riggs, Nick Sanchez, Stewart Friesen, William Sawalich, Matt Crafton, Dean Thompson, and Chase Purdy were top 10.

Daniel Dye in 11th, Taylor Gray in 12th, Ty Majeski in 13th, Grant Enfinger in 16th, Tyler Ankrum in 24th, and Ben Rhodes in 30th were playoff drivers who missed out on stage 2 points.

Next: The first round of the Truck Series playoffs ends on Sept. 27 at Kansas Speedway. Two drivers will be eliminated from championship contention after the Friday night race (8:30 p.m. ET on FS1). Eight others will move on to the Round of 8.
