Sting Ray Robb released from hospital following IndyCar crash

Sting Ray Robb was involved in a wild crash on the last lap of Sunday's NTT IndyCar Series race at Iowa Speedway. He has now been released from the hospital after undergoing evaluation.

"After further assessment at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center, Sting Ray has been released," AJ Foyt Racing said in a statement Sunday evening.

"Sting Ray's family and AJ Foyt Racing would like to extend our gratitude to the AMR Safety team for their quick response, to IndyCar medical staff for their thorough care, and IndyCar for the high safety standards of our race cars that allowed Sting Ray to walk away from a horrific accident today."

The incident occurred on the exit of Turn 2 at the .875-mile short track. Robb's car clipped one driven by Alexander Rossi. Robb's car flipped twice and landed on its top while sliding down the backstretch.

The incident also collected cars driven by Kyle Kirkwood and Ed Carpenter. Kirkwood spun trying to avoid the crash, and he collided with the inside SAFER barrier. Carpenter's car landed on top of Kirkwood's.

The AMR Safety crew arrived on scene in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Robb was alert, and he gave a thumbs up as he headed to the ambulance for the trip to the infield care center.

AJ Foyt Racing released a statement after the race and said that Robb was taken to the hospital for further evaluation out of an abundance of caution. The team clarified that a helicopter was the form of transportation due to traffic conditions and the distance to the hospital.

Robb, 22, is currently in his second full IndyCar Series season. He spent his rookie season driving for Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing and posted a season-best finish of 12th at Laguna Seca. He had an average finish of 22.2 in the No. 51.

Robb joined AJ Foyt Racing ahead of the 2024 season and took over the No. 41 Chevrolet. He has made 11 starts for the team while working alongside Santino Ferrucci. Robb's best finish is 15th in the first race at Iowa Speedway.
