Ryan Truex pursues Dover 3-peat with new opportunity

Ryan Truex is back in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a race at a significant track. He will once again compete at Dover Motor Speedway while pursuing the rare three-peat.

The New Jersey native has reunited with Sam Hunt Racing for the July 19 event at the Monster Mile. He will drive the No. 24 Toyota GR Supra while the New Jersey State Police supports him as a primary sponsor.

"It's always fun to have Ryan behind the wheel at SHR," team owner Sam Hunt said in a statement. "He brings so much experience, knowledge, and past success to the table, especially at Dover.

"He understands where SHR is as a team and wants to help everyone continue to improve. We couldn't be doing this without our partners at New Jersey State Police, and are all excited to get to work at the Monster Mile."

Truex, a veteran of all three national NASCAR series, broke through in a major way in 2023. He returned to Joe Gibbs Racing on a part-time schedule, and he delivered in the biggest weekend of his career.

Truex led 124 of the 200 laps at Dover Motor Speedway in 2023, and he scored his first career national series win in his 89th Xfinity start. Two days later, older brother Martin Truex Jr. completed the family weekend sweep by winning the Cup Series race at Dover.

The veteran driver returned to Dover for the 2024 Xfinity Series race and delivered more success for Joe Gibbs Racing. He started 12th but spent the entire race in the top 10. He put himself in position for the overtime restart, which he used to pass Carson Kvapil. Truex scored his second career win and his second at Dover in two seasons.

The time has come for Truex to attempt the rare three-peat at a single track. He will continue to drive a Toyota GR Supra, but this one will feature Brian Gainey atop the pit box.

Gainey is now a crew chief for SHR, but he previously served as a car chief for the No. 20 team at Joe Gibbs Racing. Gainey's time in Xfinity last season included nine trips to victory lane, two of which were with Truex.
