Back in June 2018, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. went public with his relationship with Brittany Long. Before that, as you may know, he had a much more high-profile relationship with Danica Patrick. The two NASCAR drivers dated for five years, but have since gone their separate ways.
While Ricky and Danica probably had plenty of good times together, that type of stuff rarely makes for juicy news. So, when looking back on the NASCAR power couple’s relationship, we decided to focus on one of their rough patches.
The date was June 25, 2017. The place was Sonoma Raceway. The race was the Toyota/Save Mart 350. The “rough patch” in question? A wreck that forced Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to bow out of the NASCAR Cup Series race early.
It all started when Danica’s car ended up getting dinged after Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Larson scuffled in stage two of the road course.
The bump sent Danica’s No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing car into a tailspin as the pair slid back, but her driver’s side back quarter panel caught the nose of Ricky’s No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing car, ending the day prematurely for her at-the-time boyfriend.
Danica remained relatively calm after getting clipped, with in-car audio revealing that, at the time of the accident, she simply uttered, “Whoa!”
Apparently NASCAR writer Jeff Gluck had a bit more insight into what was happening in the cockpit of Danica’s car, and it’s apparent she was pretty frustrated. Live tweeting her reactions, he shared:
But, despite her attitude, Danica also felt great remorse for taking Ricky out of the race. At least somewhat.
Did this dust-up mark the beginning of the end for the former NASCAR couple? Maybe. Maybe not. But, if it did, it’s probably not something either Ricky or Danica talk about too much these days.
If they even talk at all. Because, to be fair, I can’t imagine the former couple going on any double dates in the near future.
