Pocono Cup Series starting lineup: Denny Hamlin wins pole

Denny Hamlin will lead the Pocono Cup Series lineup on Sunday afternoon after winning the pole.

Hamlin, the all-time Pocono Raceway wins leader, captured the pole with a lap of 52.144 seconds. This is his first pole win of the season and the 44th of his Cup Series career. Hamlin now has five pole wins at Pocono, tied for the most in NASCAR history.

RFK Racing's Chris Buescher qualified second with a lap of 52.227 seconds. Carson Hocevar followed in third with a lap of 52.379 seconds.

The rest of the top 10 included John Hunter Nemechek (52.390), Cole Custer (52.436), Chase Briscoe (52.444), Ty Gibbs (52.464), Tyler Reddick (52.500), Christopher Bell (52.525), and Daniel Suarez (52.631).

Multiple drivers failed to complete qualifying laps at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, albeit for very different reasons.

William Byron, the fastest driver in practice, lost control of the No. 24 Chevrolet in Turn 2. He slid up the track and made contact with the outside wall. He then shot down across the track and slammed into the inside SAFER barrier.

This contact forced Hendrick Motorsports to pull the backup car off of the hauler.

Josh Berry could not qualify due to an unexpected part failure during practice. The diffuser on the No. 21 Ford broke as Berry worked around the track, which sent him back to the garage. The team spent the rest of the afternoon working on repairing the Wood Brothers Racing Ford.

Bubba Wallace, who was second-fastest in Saturday's practice, had a mechanical issue. He lined up for qualifying, but his No. 23 Toyota would not fire. The team tried to push-start it multiple times on pit road, but they remained unsuccessful.

Crew chief Charles Denike told Prime Video's Marty Snider that the starter was the issue. This failure meant that Wallace would join multiple other drivers at the rear of the Pocono Cup Series field.

Brennan Poole was not allowed to qualify after the No. 44 Chevrolet failed pre-race inspection three times. NASCAR ejected car chief Mark Labretone and took away the team's ability to qualify or select a pit stall. Poole will also have to serve a pass-through penalty after taking the green flag on Sunday.

Cody Ware's No. 51 Ford sustained damage during practice after the Rick Ware Racing driver spun in Turn 3. The damage sent Ware back to the garage so his team could make repairs.

The Cup Series drivers will line up to take on Pocono Raceway on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Prime Video will provide coverage for the final time this season.
