Nick Sanchez gets first career Xfinity Series win

HAMPTON, Ga. -- Another rookie has punched their ticket to the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs. Nick Sanchez has scored his first career win after a race featuring a lightning delay and a red flag lasting more than one hour.

The Big Machine Racing driver recovered from a spin through the infield grass on Lap 68, and he worked his way back through the field as the laps clicked down at EchoPark Speedway. He then used his No. 48 Big Machine Racing Chevrolet to pass leader Aric Almirola on Lap 143.

However, Sanchez did not have a smooth path to victory lane. He lost the lead to Jesse Love late and then took it back before a caution for debris in Turn 2. Sanchez then had to hold off the field on a hectic restart with seven laps remaining.

The rookie driver did exactly what he needed, albeit after recovering from an issue shifting between third and fourth gear on the final restart. He fended off Love and Almirola. He then fended off a late charge from fellow rookie Carson Kvapil. Once Sanchez took the white flag, it was clear sailing all the way to the finish line.

Kvapil crossed the line in second while Sam Mayer finished third. Connor Zilisch and Taylor Gray rounded out the top five. Love and Almirola fell to sixth and seventh, respectively, in the final seven laps.

This win was significant for Sanchez for multiple reasons. The first is that it was his first at the Xfinity Series level. The second is that it punched his ticket to the playoffs.

He had entered the weekend 14th in the Xfinity standings, which put him below the cutline. The win erased this deficit.

"This is just a reminder of my 2023 debut here in a truck at Atlanta," Sanchez said after doing his celebratory burnout. "I spun, and I finished second. Now, I spun and I won, so that's awesome."

Sanchez is now the second driver to win for Big Machine Racing, the team that first began competing in 2021. Tyler Reddick won at Texas Motor Speedway in 2022.
