NASCAR has issued L1-level penalties to two Xfinity Series teams after the trip to Talladega Superspeedway.
The No. 87 team of Jordan Anderson Racing and the No. 99 team of Viking Motorsports both violated the NASCAR Rule Book, Sections 14.4.A: Body; 14.4.11.C&D: Rear bumper covers.
Austin Green and Jordan Anderson Racing both lost 20 points and five playoff points as part of the L1-level penalties. Jordan Anderson Racing received a $25,000 fine. NASCAR issued the same points penalty and fine to Matt DiBenedetto and Viking Motorsports.
According to the weekly penalty report, the penalties stem from pre-race inspection at the 2.66-mile Alabama track.
Green did not actually make the starting lineup for last weekend's Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. He was one of three drivers who failed to qualify, along with Garrett Smithley and Jake Garcia.
DiBenedetto, for comparison, lined up 12th for the start of the Xfinity race. He remained on the lead lap and ultimately ended the day in fifth place after NASCAR threw the caution for Connor Zilisch being spun into the inside SAFER barrier.
This finish was DiBenedetto's best of the season at a drafting-style track, and it secured a season-high 32 points. It surpassed his 11th-place finish at Daytona International Speedway and his 12th-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The L1-level penalties did not drop DiBenedetto in the standings. He left Talladega Superspeedway with 179 points, which put him 24th in the standings. The 20-point loss dropped his total to 159 points. Blaine Perkins in 25th place has 154 points.
The points penalty is less concerning to Green, who is only running a partial schedule with Jordan Anderson Racing. The Concord, North Carolina, native has only made three starts this season.
He drove for JAR at Circuit of the Americas, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Rockingham Speedway. He failed to qualify for races at Darlington Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway.
