If you think about it, NASCAR over the years has had a lot of similarities to a big-budget Hollywood movie: it’s had moments that have made us laugh, moments that have made us cry, and moments that have had us on the edge of our seats.
Those similarities aside, there are, in fact, tons of NASCAR stories that could easily be made into a highly lucrative (albeit super long) Hollywood flick. Of course, this all got us to thinking: if there were an official NASCAR movie, who would play some of the major parts?
Here, we’ll look at just a few of the biggest names in NASCAR, past and present, and match them up (or at least attempt to) with the actors who would play them on the big screen.
Chase Elliott — Miles Teller
Considering that Chase Elliott is really starting to come into his own as a NASCAR young gun and Miles Teller is a rising star in the movie business, the pairing here is pretty spot-on.
That being said, who would play Chase’s dad, NASCAR legend Bill Elliott? You know, the guy who taught Chase a lot of what he knows? Hopefully not J.K. Simmons. That probably wouldn’t portray the best teacher-student relationship.
Danica Patrick — Olivia Munn
Danica Patrick and Olivia Munn don’t really share all that much in common other than the fact that one (Munn) used to date Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the other (Patrick) currently does.
But hey, it would probably make for quite the dramatic red carpet moment.
Kyle Busch — Shia LaBeouf
With Kyle Busch both being pretty good at what he does and also having a decent amount of haters out there, we don’t think it would be too much out of the realm of possibility for Shia LaBeouf to channel him on the big screen. Plus, with a few arrests under his belt, Shia has definitely been known to get a little “Rowdy” in his day.
For the sake of his own safety though, hopefully Shia doesn’t go too method for this role and try recreating a few of Busch’s reckless driving charges in real life.
Richard Petty — Burt Reynolds
American legends? Check. Sweet mustaches? Double check. Great behind the wheel of a sweet car? If you’ve ever seen Smokey and the Bandit, then you already know the answer to that.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. — Chris Rock/Nicolas Cage/Steve Buscemi
Ok, so this last one is way, WAY out there, but before you completely write this off, consider this: Dale Jr. actually made this suggestion himself in a tweet about a year ago.
Sure, he wasn’t being serious at all, but if you think that seeing Nicolas Cage acting out some of Junior’s most intense moments wouldn’t be at least a little bit entertaining, then you clearly don’t know entertainment.
