NASCAR Cup race at Daytona results: Harrison Burton wins

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- It was a special night for Harrison Burton as he scored his first career Cup Series win at Daytona International Speedway.

Burton won Saturday night's Coke Zero Sugar 400 in overtime after a timely push from Parker Retzlaff. He held off two-time champion Kyle Busch and captured the 100th win for Wood Brothers Racing.

Busch finished second. Christopher Bell, Cody Ware, Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace, Retzlaff, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Hemric, and Chris Buescher rounded out the top 10.

This win put Burton in the playoffs for the first time at NASCAR's top level, and it took place after Wood Brothers Racing announced that Josh Berry would replace him in the No. 21 Ford in 2025.

"I cried the whole victory lap," Burton said after the win. "Obviously got fired from this job. I wanted to do everything for the Wood Brothers that I could.

"They've given me an amazing opportunity in life. To get them 100 on my way out is amazing. We're in the Playoffs now. Let's go to Darlington and see what happens."

Stage 1: Josh Berry won the opening stage of the race after a push from Chris Buescher. This was his first stage win at NASCAR's top level. Joey Logano, Buescher, Austin Cindric, Ryan Blaney, Todd Gilliland, Michael McDowell, Brad Keselowski, William Byron, and Kyle Larson were all top 10.

Stage 2: A caution for Erik Jones blowing a tire and Shane van Gisbergen losing an engine set up a shootout with seven laps remaining in the stage.

Joey Logano won the second stage over Ryan Blaney. Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Todd Gilliland, Justin Haley, Kyle Busch, William Byron, Chris Buescher, and Bubba Wallace all scored stage points.

Notable: The second stage was full of unexpected moments. The Big One struck and collected Chase Elliott, Noah Gragson, Ryan Preece, Corey LaJoie, and numerous other drivers.

A massive fire also destroyed the rear of Daniel Suarez's No. 99 Chevrolet. He was able to safely exit the car, but he posted his second DNF at Daytona this season.

Another massive crash took place at the end of the scheduled distance. Berry and Austin Cindric both spun while other cars crashed behind them. Berry's No. 4 Ford flipped and landed on its roof before sliding hard into the SAFER barrier.

Berry remained upside down for several minutes as track safety crews worked to turn the car over. Once they accomplished this, he climbed out and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd.

Next: The NASCAR Cup Series teams close out the regular season next weekend at Darlington Raceway. They will compete in the crown jewel event, the Southern 500, on Sunday, Sept. 1 (6 p.m. ET on USA Network).
