The Cup Series drivers will be idle that weekend as NASCAR will not race on Easter Sunday (April 20).
The 2025 season will mark Rockingham Speedway's long-awaited return as NASCAR celebrates racing history.
After all, this is a track where legends of the sport have competed for wins and battled door-to-door.
Rockingham Speedway made its debut on the Cup Series schedule in 1965. The track began hosting two races each season in 1966 and continued to do so until 2003. The 2004 season featured one race, which Matt Kenseth won.
This event was ultimately the final race held at Rockingham Speedway until 2012-13 when the Craftsman Truck Series competed in two races.
Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson won these events after defeating such drivers as Ty Dillon, Parker Kligerman, Matt Crafton, Jeb Burton, Miguel Paludo, Joey Logano, and Chase Elliott.
The Xfinity Series also competed at Rockingham, doing so every season between 1982-04. Several drivers won races at the 1.017-mile track, but three were particularly dominant. Dale Earnhardt won four times in a stretch of 13 races. Jamie McMurray won the final four Xfinity races at Rockingham.
Mark Martin was statistically the best driver at the historic North Carolina track. He won 11 times in 25 starts while posting an average finish of 7.5. Martin posted top-five finishes in 64% of his starts at Rockingham.
The return of Rockingham means that drivers with experience at the track will have another opportunity to contend for the elusive win. It also allows for the next generation of competitors to take on the North Carolina track for the first time.
