Monday Cup Series race at Michigan: Start time, TV info, weather

NOTE: Updated after NASCAR postponed the Cup Series race to Monday.

NASCAR Cup Series teams return to Michigan International Speedway for a Monday morning race after rain disrupted the Sunday schedule.

This is one of three remaining races in the regular season. Chris Buescher is the defending winner and he is one of five active Michigan winners in the lineup.

Ford Performance drivers have won the last nine Cup races at Michigan. Kevin Harvick, who retired after last season, won five of these races. Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney each have one win at the two-mile track in this stretch.

Weather forecast

Monday forecast: Partly cloudy skies. A high of 67 degrees and a 2% chance of rain at the start of the Cup Series.

Michigan International Speedway Monday, Aug. 19, schedule (Eastern Time)

  • 11:30 a.m. -- Cup Series garage hours
  • 2:30 p.m. -- Cup Series race (200 laps, 400 miles. USA, streaming on NBC Sports app. Radio coverage on Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio)

TV info: USA Network will provide coverage for the Cup Series race at 11 a.m.

Pre-race: Drivers will report to their cars at 10:40 a.m. The green flag will wave at 11:05 a.m.

Current lineup: Chase Elliott is in the lead after staying out during the stage break. Martin Truex Jr., Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman, and Tyler Reddick are currently inside the top five.

Playoff picture: Four spots remain in the 16-driver playoff field after NASCAR removed Austin Dillon. The Richard Childress Racing driver had won last weekend's race at Richmond, but the sanctioning body took away his playoff eligibility as a penalty for wrecking Joey Logano and Hamlin on the final lap.

Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain currently have the same number of points. Buescher is on the positive side of the playoff cutline by virtue of a tiebreaker. Chastain is the first driver outside of a playoff spot. Chase Briscoe is behind Chastain at 99 points below the cutline.

Martin Truex Jr. is in the best position of the four currently winless drivers above the cutline. He has a 78-point cushion between him and the cutline. Ty Gibbs is only 18 points to the good while Bubba Wallace is only three points to the good.
