Milwaukee Truck results: Layne Riggs wins first race

|

Layne Riggs is a first-time winner in the Craftsman Truck Series after capturing Sunday afternoon's race at Milwaukee Mile Speedway.

Riggs, who missed the playoffs in his rookie season, took the lead from Ty Majeski with 53 laps left in the race. He built up a lead of more than 1.5 seconds as the laps ticked down. Majeski made a late charge but could not erase the deficit. He had to settle for second place.

Christian Eckes, Nick Sanchez, Taylor Gray, Tyler Ankrum, Corey Heim, Daniel Dye, Ben Rhodes, and Matt Crafton rounded out the top 10.

Riggs, who joined Front Row Motorsports for the 2024 season, joined his father Scott Riggs on the list of Truck Series winners. Scott won five times during the 2001 season.

"Thank you to Bob Jenkins and Jerry Freeze for letting me drive this truck," Riggs said after the race. "We've had a terrible year. It's been an awful year. I've learned so much though in my rookie season.

"After the start, I thought, 'There was no way we were gonna get a win. We're gonna do the best we can, but we're just learning for next year.' I knew in practice this thing was pretty awesome, so I couldn't be more thankful to Front Row and everybody on this team."

Notable: Riggs sustained an injury while jumping up and down on the roof of his truck in celebration. He popped his arm out of the socket and had to have his crew help him put it back into place.

Stage 1: A caution flew for a truck hitting the wall with five laps remaining in the opening stage. This created a split decision as some of the leaders headed down pit road for fresh tires and fuel. Others stayed out in anticipation of what they expected to be a quick shootout to end the stage.

NASCAR added a lap but never sent the race back to green before the end of the stage. Ty Dillon won the stage after staying out. Jake Garcia, Christian Eckes, Ty Majeski, Nick Sanchez, Layne Riggs, Daniel Dye, Tanner Gray, Taylor Gray, and Tyler Ankrum were all in the top 10.

Corey Heim received a speeding penalty during late-stage pit stops. He missed out on stage points.

Stage 2: Christian Eckes won stage 2. Ty Majeski, Layne Riggs, Nick Sanchez, Taylor Gray, Daniel Dye, Tyler Ankrum, Matt Crafton, Kaden Honeycutt, and Grant Enfinger were all top 10.

Playoff picture: The majority of Truck Series playoff contenders scored stage points Sunday afternoon at Milwaukee Mile Speedway. The only ones who missed out on points were Rhodes, Caruth, and Heim.

Enfinger is now the driver above the Round of 8 cutline. He is two points above the cutline. Two-time champion Rhodes is two points below the cutline. Caruth is four points below the cutline.

Next: Truck teams have multiple weeks off before continuing with the opening round of the playoffs. They will next head to Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday, Sept. 19 (8 p.m. ET).
