Martin Truex Jr. was on his way to his fifth win of the season after dominating most of Saturday night's race at Richmond, but his chances ended after a late crash with Denny Hamlin.
Truex led for 198 laps, and he was leading with three laps to go when a caution flag was waved after Derrike Cope made contact with the wall. Cope was able to continue racing since no damage was done, but the caution forced an overtime finish.
At the beginning of overtime, Hamlin accidentally wrecked Truex, which caused Truex to finish 20th. Truex told NBC Sports after the race that he didn't agree with the caution coming out for Cope's wreck.

"Yeah, I mean, I just don't agree with the caution," Truex said. "I think it's ridiculous that, again, there's a guy out there that shouldn't even be out there, 20 some laps down, riding around.
"As slow as he is, he can't even hold his damn line. It's ridiculous. He scrapes the wall, they throw a caution with (three) to go. That's not what racing should be.
"I'm mad about that. But I have to go back and watch the tape, see how it exactly played out. I'm madder about all that than I am about losing. Just a hard way to lose 'em."
Truex could have added another five playoff points had he won, but he will still have 53 playoff points and the regular season championship heading into the postseason.
Kyle Larson eventually won the race, and his four wins tied Truex for most victories this season.
