Kyle Busch would probably like to forget what happened the night of August 18, 2018 at Bristol Motor Speedway for two reasons. One, the NASCAR driver had a pretty terrible performance there, and two, his eventful evening was capped off by a fan who wanted to fight him.
Despite his glowing track record at Bristol, he ended up placing 20th at the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, while his older brother Kurt stole the spotlight, snapping a 58-race winless streak.
As Kurt Busch was busy basking in the glow of his victory, Rowdy had to deal with a rowdy heckler, who seemed pretty intent on fighting the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.
As video of the post-race altercation posted by a Reddit user shows, Busch, after he’s done with signing autographs at Bristol’s exit tunnel, leaves his golf cart to confront a fan who had been heckling him. Words and a few shoves were exchanged, but no punches were thrown.
The confrontation probably had a lot to do with Busch’s performance in the Bristol night race. On his second lap of the NASCAR Cup Series race, Busch caused a 15-car wreck, which was later followed up by Busch making contact with Martin Truex Jr., effectively knocking him out of the race.
“I didn’t think I was next to him yet, and I clipped him and sent him for a whale of a ride,” Busch told the Associated Press about his collision with Truex. “Hopefully, he’s all right and everything is OK there. I hated that I clipped him, I know he could have had a good shot to win the race, too.”
Judging from Truex’s immediate reaction to getting knocked out of the race, it’s a surprise he wasn’t the one who tried to fight Busch. That would have made for quite the Big 3 brawl.
