Kaulig Racing names first fill-in driver after Josh Williams split

Kaulig Racing has named the first driver who will take over the No. 11 Chevrolet Camaro after the team split with Josh Williams.

According to a Wednesday announcement, Carson Hocevar will join Kaulig Racing for this weekend's trip to Iowa Speedway. He will take over the No. 11 while pulling double-duty at the .875-mile track.

Hocevar will be the second Cup driver in a fill-in role. Austin Dillon will replace Austin Hill, who NASCAR suspended after a wreck at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend.

"I love to race, anywhere, anytime, so when I was asked to drive the Kaulig Xfinity car at Iowa, I jumped at the opportunity," Hocevar said in a press release.

"I'm grateful to the team at Kaulig Racing for believing in me and to Jeff Dickerson and my Spire team for letting me have some fun with the 11 team this weekend. I promise to make the most of it."

The Wisconsin native, who competes full-time in the Cup Series for Spire Motorsports, has limited experience in NASCAR's second-tier series. He has only made six starts, five of which were during the 2023 season.

Hocevar made his Xfinity debut at Circuit of the Americas in 2023. He drove for SS Green Light Racing but failed to finish the race due to a mechanical issue.

He then joined the short-lived Spire Motorsports Xfinity program for trips to Darlington Raceway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, and Michigan International Speedway. Hocevar's best finish in the No. 77 Xfinity car was sixth at Darlington.

Hocevar returned to the Xfinity Series this season for a road course race. He reunited with SS Green Light Racing at Circuit of the Americas but failed to finish due to a crash.

Hocevar will now return to the series after the Kaulig Racing-Williams split, and he will work with a veteran crew chief. He will have Eddie Pardue Jr. calling the shot from atop the pit box. Pardue Jr. has been an Xfinity crew chief for 372 races, and he has celebrated three wins. Two wins featured Greg Biffle in 2009. The other featured Matt Kenseth in 2009.
