Josh Berry throws it back to Michael Waltrip at North Wilkesboro

The No. 21 Ford Mustang will feature a special scheme during the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Josh Berry will throw it back to Michael Waltrip.

According to an announcement from Wood Brothers Racing, the No. 21 Ford will feature a red and white scheme that throws it back to the 1996 season. This will be a recreation of Waltrip's race-winning Citgo car that captured the Winston Select All-Star event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The design and the colors will be the same, but the car will feature different logos. Berry will have Dex Imaging as his primary sponsor as he races for $1 million.

Unlike past iterations of the exhibition event, Berry will not have to first compete in the All-Star Open and attempt to lock up his spot in the All-Star Race. He will already be in the main event after scoring his first career Cup Series win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this season.

The 1996 All-Star Race -- then the Winston Select -- was a major event for Waltrip. It marked his first time winning a Cup Series race, albeit one that didn't count in the championship standings.

Unlike other drivers in the field, Waltrip did not have a secure spot. He had to transfer from the Winston Select Open, which he did by finishing fifth overall.  He joined fellow transfer drivers Hut Stricklin, Lake Speed, Jeff Burton, and Jimmy Spencer.

Waltrip was not a factor during the first segment of the race, but he put himself in contention late by finishing fourth in the second segment. This put him on the second row for the final 10-lap dash to the checkered flag. He joined Rusty Wallace as they lined up behind Dale Earnhardt and Terry Labonte.

Once the green flag waved, the drivers began battling for position. Labonte and Earnhardt were side-by-side for a full lap while Waltrip raced just behind them. This put him in a position to take advantage with nine laps to go when Labonte and Earnhardt made contact. They drifted up the track while the No. 21 cruised by in the bottom lane. Rusty Wallace then took second place.

The final laps of the Winston Select featured Waltrip putting distance between himself and the field while Wallace and Earnhardt gave chase. The other drivers continued racing side-by-side while battling for positions. In the end, it was the Wood Brothers Racing driver who scored his first win and the $211,000 prize.

He also made history by becoming the first driver to win this exhibition event after transferring from the Open.
