NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C -- Joey Logano was previously unaware of the fact that Chipper Jones strongly disliked him. This changed on Tuesday morning, but the three-time Cup Series champion was still left confused.
As he explained, having a former Atlanta Braves third baseman come after him on X was something he never expected.
"I found out he really doesn't like me," Logano told a select group of media members at North Wilkesboro Speedway. "So I'm surprised that a professional athlete would act in that manner because he's been through it."
The kerfuffle started after last weekend's Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Jones, who grew up outside of Daytona, congratulated Austin Cindric on the win. The Hall of Famer then took aim at Logano. He weighed in on Logano's rant over the radio about Cindric "handing" Toyota the win in stage 2.
Congrats to @AustinCindric on his @TALLADEGA win. Good teammates are hard to come by, Boss! Remember that one of urs MFed u on national tv, when in all actuality, u did everything possible to keep from wrecking him. Hate to be #dueces in the ‘team’ meeting on Monday. Some people…

"Good teammates are hard to come by, Boss," Jones posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "Remember that one of urs MFed u on national tv, when in all actuality, u did everything possible to keep from wrecking him.
"Hate to be (deuces) in the 'team' meeting on Monday. Some people are 'hooray for our team as long as I'm the star' as every team has them. Hendrick, RCR, JGR, Penske, etc. Sometimes karma is glorious. Enjoy this one!"
This was not the sole post. Jones also commented on Logano's post-race interview with Fox Sports, and then he said that his day kept getting better after seeing that the No. 22 had failed post-race inspection.

"I am very careful to form an opinion on an athlete by their emotions or the way they play the game," Logano continued. "Because I know from being in that position, when there's that much on the line in a competitive environment, you act a certain way because you're out there to win.
"And you've got to be able to shut that off. I would have assumed him being the athlete that he is and was, that he would understand that and not mouth off on social media like somebody that's never played the sport before -- or a sport."
One reason for the surprise is that Logano has never met Jones. The two athletes -- to his knowledge -- have never crossed paths, so he doesn't know why Jones dislikes him so much.
"All I can think of is he's just trying to be relevant still, or something like that," Logano said. "I don't really know exactly why. Like I said, I've never met him. I don't have a reason to dislike him outside of now.
"Oh well. I guess I'm not rooting for the Braves anytime soon."
At this point, there is nothing Logano can do about it. He can just move forward with his career. He will continue to have some angry rants over the radio -- that's part of competing for wins and championships.
It's possible that Jones, a NASCAR fan, will continue to post about Logano as the season continues, but it's unlikely that Logano will see the content.
