The first Can-Am Duel at Daytona got started off with a bang, not that anyone noticed. As FS1 went to commercial, Jimmie Johnson got loose and started to get out of the pack. Then his left rear tire went down and sent him hard into the side of Aric Almirola.

Also involved in the wreck was Daniel Suarez, the only Toyota in this first duel. Johnson and Almirola were eliminated from the race, and will start at the back of the field for the Daytona 500 because of it.

Johnson was hopeful for a comeback year entering the season but has now crashed out of both events he has participated in here at Daytona. His team will have a lot of work to do if they are going to reverse his fortunes.
