Indianapolis Motor Speedway is set to host a prestigious race on Memorial Day weekend. That's right, we're talking about the Wienie 500.
Announced on May 20, the Wienie 500 will kick off Indianapolis 500 weekend in a wildly unique way. All six of Oscar Mayer's Wienermobiles will meet at the 2.5-mile track and compete against each other for the first time. The race will kick off on Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m. ET.
Each of these Wienermobiles will feature a special theme for sections of the country. One will be a Chicago Dog (Midwest), while another will be a Seattle Dog (Northwest). The other competitors include the New York Dog (East), Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest), and Chili Dog (South).
Hot off the grill: The “Wienie 500” will stream live on Friday, May 23 at 2 PM ET on the FOX Sports app & across @INDYCARonFOX social accounts with @wbuxtonofficial, @Hinchtown & @townsendbell on the call.pic.twitter.com/QyFXvb67Mc

Oscar Mayer and Indianapolis Motor Speedway will go all out for this unique race. The competitors (Hotdoggers) will have custom racing suits. The track will also host a trophy presentation in the "Wiener's Circle," complete with a condiment spray and hot dog.
However, this will not simply be an event for the fans at the prestigious venue, as Fox Sports will be involved. The company will bring the race to a much larger audience.
The NTT IndyCar Series broadcast partner will stream the Wienie 500 live across Fox Sports platforms and IndyCar social accounts. Will Buxton, James Hinchcliffe, and Townsend Bell will provide commentary for the unique race. Race highlights will air during the Indy 500 pre-race show on Sunday, May 25.
"The Indy 500 marks the unofficial kickoff of summer and the start of hot dog season," said Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer, in a press release.
"As a brand known for sparking smiles in disarmingly delightful ways, it's only fitting that we bring a race of epic proportions to the Speedway and celebrate a timeless tradition: delicious meats and a little friendly competition to kick off a summer of wieners."
