"I am happy and proud to represent such an iconic motorsport brand as BMW in some of the world's most legendary races," Magnussen said in a statement.
"After ten years in Formula 1, I am embarking on a new and exciting chapter, and I look forward to taking on the challenge in the most innovative and advanced sports cars in the history of endurance racing.
"A huge thank you to BMW M Motorsport for this fantastic opportunity. I can hardly wait to start the preparations and look forward to kicking off the 2025 season with the rest of the team."
Magnussen has experience competing in IMSA. He took on the 2021 season schedule while driving for Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing. He won the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix and he delivered several other podium finishes while working with Renger van der Zande.
The Danish driver has primarily spent his racing career in Formula One. He made his debut in 2014 with McLaren and delivered a runner-up finish in his first Grand Prix. He ended his rookie season 11th in points.
Magnussen spent one season with Renault and then seven with Haas F1 Team. His best season was in 2018 when he posted an average finish of 11.2 and finished ninth in the championship standings.
The veteran driver's future was in question midway through the 2024 season. Haas F1 Team announced that Magnussen would depart the team after the season and then it announced a contract with Esteban Ocon.
