A huge mistake was overcome for a driver to win his second career Southern 500

What an ending! The Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington was billed as a throwback race because of the liveries and various other old school themes, but the real throwback was how intense the racing was at the end.

Denny Hamlin completed an amazing weekend when he brought home his second Southern 500 at Darlington.

Martin Truex Jr. won the first two stages and clinched the regular season championship, but will still be disappointed in how this one ended. In the final laps, with Denny Hamlin bearing down on him for the lead, Truex lost a tire and the race.

It all looked to be coming apart for Hamlin when he lost the lead earlier by missing pit lane while attempting to come in for his final stop of the race. The mistake looked like it could take him out of the race, but Hamlin had other ideas.
