Daniel Suarez ends NASCAR Brasil weekend with podium finish

Daniel Suarez has closed out his debut weekend in the NASCAR Brasil Series with another strong finish.

The Trackhouse Racing driver crossed the finish line at Interlagos Circuit third on Sunday afternoon. Gabriel Casagrande won while Julio Campos finished second. This was his second podium finish in three races, and it capped off a wild final battle with two other drivers.

Suarez, who started from the pole at the Sao Paulo track, was delivering a dominant performance during the final race of the weekend. However, the situation changed significantly after a multi-car incident brought out the caution with under 15 minutes remaining.

Suarez kept the lead off of the restart, but he immediately faced challenges from Campos in the No. 57. The two went back and forth for multiple laps until contact between their cars dropped Campos back to third place.

Casagrande moved into second and began putting up a fight of his own. He ultimately passed Suarez as the clock continued ticking down. Suarez fell to third after losing the lead, but he was able to get back up front before taking the white flag.

The win appeared to be within reach for Suarez, but Casagrande was not yet done. The driver of the No. 83 charged back to the lead and went on to win the race. Campos passed Suarez as well before taking the checkered flag.

While the Trackhouse Racing driver did not win Sunday's race, he ended his time in Brazil with three strong finishes.

Suarez crossed the line first overall in the first NASCAR Brasil Special Edition race but received a five-second penalty. He was credited with a fourth-place finish.

Later that evening, he crossed the finish line second. However, Suarez was credited with the win after the original race-winner received a penalty. He then closed out the weekend with a third-place finish in the No. 91 Chevrolet.

Fresh off a NASCAR Brasil Series debut, Suarez now returns to the United States to continue his quest for a Cup Series championship. Next up is a date with Richmond Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 11 (6 p.m. ET on USA Network).
