Danica Patrick officially announced her retirement from full time racing today at a press conference. But there is a wrinkle, she won't close out her career as an also-ran in the championship race this weekend, but by running the two biggest races in American motorsports: The Daytona and Indy 500s.
In regards to the rumors of her moving to TV, Patrick denied that there was anything in the works right now. She said "never say never," but maintained that there is no plan to do that right now.

Throughout the conference, Danica was still Danica, of course. Joking around in between bouts of tears. When asked about other drivers giving her a fair chance she said under her breath that sometimes they could be "Assholes." Never change.
She wants to be remembered as a great driver, but she also doesn't care that people will remember her as a woman driver. As long as they don't leave off the 'great' part.
In between the laughs, there was a lot of emotion as she spoke, but she pushed though. Even joking at the end that it was probably weird to see her get emotional up there before cutting herself off saying, "I gotta get outta here," and leaving the stage.
NASCAR will truly miss her. It wasn't always her performance that made Danica special, but what she represented. And that she never took crap from anyone.
