One of NASCAR's biggest names rips his own Richmond performance: "Today I was a clown."

Ouch.

Denny Hamlin was none-too-pleased that he wrecked Martin Truex Jr. late in the race at Richmond.

First, here's what happened:

Hamlin and Truex made contact, sending Truex's No. 78 Furniture Row Toyota hard into the wall, and ruining any chances he had for a win (Kyle Larson took the race after the caution came out).\

After the race, Truex was gracious. He told Motorsports, com: "It made it a rough ending with Denny getting into us. We talked and I know he didn't do it on purpose. He jumped on the brakes and got on the splitter. I gave him room but he was just aggressive on the brakes." He added, "That stuff happens."

For his part, Hamlin was upset with himself: "It was a miserable day actually.  They tell me I'm a hero around here.  Today I was a clown," he said. You can see his full remarks in the video below.
