Christopher Bell adds another race to Mexico City schedule

Christopher Bell is taking on another race during the June trip to Mexico City. He will pull double duty while joining forces with a new team.

According to a press release, Bell will take over the No. 24 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing. He will compete in the Chilango 150 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Saturday, June 14th, while making his first start for Sam Hunt Racing.

This race in Mexico City will be Bell's 81st start in the second-tier series but his first with a team other than Joe Gibbs Racing. He will use the opportunity to pursue his 20th career Xfinity win.

"I have always respected Sam and what he's done in the NASCAR Xfinity Series," Bell said in a statement. "For such a young team owner to come onto the scene and have success and be part of Toyota has been a big deal.

"Being part of this team is something I look forward to being a part of and hopefully, fighting for Sam Hunt Racing's first-ever Xfinity Series win. It will be a unique experience going to a new racetrack for most of us in the series, and hopefully, it provides a good learning experience before the Sunday Cup Series race. It will be a double-header Mobil 1 weekend for me in the Xfinity car and the Cup car."

Bell's time in the Xfinity Series has featured some success on road courses, albeit with fewer opportunities. He has only made nine road course starts in the second-tier series, split between the Charlotte Roval, Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and Road America.

Bell has posted four top-five finishes and five top-10s in his nine starts on road courses. He also won the 2019 race at Road America after leading 10 laps.

The No. 24 team will continue to feature Brian Gainey as the crew chief. Gainey previously won three Xfinity races with Bell while working as a car chief at Joe Gibbs Racing.

"This is without a doubt an extremely exciting opportunity for our organization, having Christopher come to SHR with a genuine desire to battle for this team's first win in Mexico City," said team owner Sam Hunt. "Christopher's talent and ability speak for themselves, but he's also a great friend and a guy who has always supported this team and our growth over the years.

"Anytime we run strong, he seems to be the first Cup driver to reach out, to encourage us to keep pushing. Now, in partnership with the Mobil 1 family, we're finally able to work together as one team. It's special to see Christopher's excitement match ours, and we're working our hardest in the shop to put Christopher and Dean in a position to run extremely strong south of the border."
