Chevrolet reveals brand-new lineup of pace vehicles for Daytona

Chevrolet is using the opening weekend of NASCAR to showcase three wildly different vehicles. The auto manufacturer has revealed a special lineup of pace cars.

The standout from this lineup is the Blazer EV SS, the quickest SS model ever produced by Chevrolet, which will pace the field during the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 16 (2:30 p.m. ET on Fox).

This electric SUV delivers 615 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. or torque. Chevrolet says the Blazer EV SS can go from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. This pace vehicle is stock under the hood. The only updates for the Daytona 500 are a custom graphics package and embedded strobe lights.

"Chevrolet has a long history with racing -- it's in our DNA -- and the Blazer EV SS is a testament to that," said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, in a statement.

"We're excited for customers to watch the Blazer EV SS -- the quickest SS we've ever produced -- pace such an iconic race this weekend."

While the Cup Series race will feature a powerful EV, the Xfinity Series opener (Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. ET on CW) will continue to highlight an internal combustion engine. The pace car for Saturday's race will be the Corvette Stingray with the Z07 Performance Package, which Chevrolet debuted during the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium.

This sports car features a 5.5-liter engine that delivers 670 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Chevrolet says the Corvette can go from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.

The list of special pace vehicles will also include a pickup truck. The Chevrolet Silverado RST will pace the field during Friday night's season-opening Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway (Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1).

The all-Chevrolet weekend is fitting considering how last season ended. The Bowtie swept the three manufacturers' championships last season. Justin Allgaier also won the drivers' championship in a Camaro.

"Chevrolet is extremely proud to be a part of NASCAR's season openers by pacing all of the events this year at the famed World Center of Racing," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of GM Performance & Motorsports.

"We are privileged to continue our relationship with Daytona International Speedway again in 2025."
