Many NASCAR fans out there are diehard for certain drivers, and you’ll usually catch a glimpse at their enthusiasm during the actual racing. Most of the time, they remain cheerful and optimistic, but when your drier appears to be intentionally spun, it can make you pretty upset. That certainly was the case for this Chase Elliott fan.
There’s no denying that Chase Elliott got the short end of the stick during the 2017 NASCAR Cup race in Martinsville. His shot at making it into the Final Four of the playoffs was ended after Hamlin nudged him while attempting to pass, spinning him into the wall. Hamlin took the lead, but it was not a very clean move, and he was quickly booed by the crowed after the race was all said and done.
Elliott was understandably upset, leading him to hit Hamlin’s car at the end of the race to show his anger. After the two got out and exchanged words, they went their separate ways, but a fan with pit road access had a little bit more to say about what went down. He throws some harsh words in Hamlin’s direction, while also attempting to get into his face. Luckily, the race crews were there to hold this guy back before anything crazy happened.
I can’t blame the guy for being upset that his driver was spun out, but at the same time, you can’t just go around picking fights with drivers, either. That’s a good way to get your pit pass taken away for a while. You have to take the good days with the bad days if you want to be a NASCAR fan.
Although Elliott didn’t have the best night, neither did most of the field that ended up crashing behind the leaders. Watching this guy come out of nowhere to try and start a fight with Hamlin was definitely an interesting moment, though.
