Disney Television Animation will produce the "Cars" revival while working in collaboration with Pixar, the company that first put Wilson into the bright red No. 95 race car.
Pixar released the first "Cars" back in 2006 and introduced generations of fans to McQueen, Mater, and a host of other characters. This film followed a self-obsessed race car, McQueen, who had to make a stop in the isolated Radiator Springs for repairs.
It was in this town that McQueen learned that winning is not everything that matters. He became a better anthropomorphic car and makes numerous new friends.
"Cars," which introduced generations of young fans to racing, featured a star-studded cast. Wilson headlined the group, which also included several guests from the world of racing.
Some key voice actors were Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Michael Schumacher, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Humpy Wheeler, and Mario Andretti.
The franchise continued with 2011's "Cars 2" and 2017's "Cars 3." Each of these films featured more prominent figures from the world of racing. New additions included Lewis Hamilton, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Petty, Ray Evernham, Junior Johnson, Shannon Spake, Mike Joy, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, and Chase Elliott.
The last release in the "Cars" franchise was a TV mini-series, "Cars on the Road." Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy returned to their respective roles for a cross-country road trip.
