BJ McLeod joins Charlotte lineup with race-winning team

Veteran NASCAR driver/team owner BJ McLeod is set to take on Charlotte Motor Speedway. He will make his return to the Craftsman Truck Series while joining a race-winning organization.

McLeod, the driver and co-owner of Live Fast Motorsports, will drive the No. 07 Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports during the May 23 Truck Series race at NASCAR's home track. This will mark his first Truck start since the 2021 season and the 42nd of his career.

McLeod and Spire Motorsports will use the opportunity to promote the Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster, a mountain coaster he is developing in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Set to open this year, the Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster is the first mountain coaster to allow friends and family members to race side-by-side while reaching up to 30 mph.

"Getting to race again in the NASCAR truck series with an incredible team is an honor," McLeod said in a press release. "It's a perfect partnership with Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster -- speed, adrenaline, and pure excitement -- both on the track and in the mountains. We're ready to put on a show for the fans and make this ride one to remember."

The majority of McLeod's starts have been with smaller teams and have resulted in DNFs. This includes 17 consecutive races due to various mechanical or electrical problems. Now, however, he will join forces with a team that has celebrated eight Truck Series wins.

Kyle Busch has taken the No. 7 Chevrolet to victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway once and Atlanta Motor Speedway twice. Kyle Larson has taken the No. 7 to victory lane at North Wilkesboro Speedway and the No. 07 to victory lane at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Rajah Caruth, Carson Hocevar, and William Byron have each won once for Spire Motorsports. Byron scored the team's first Truck Series win at Martinsville Speedway in 2022. Caruth then won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last season. Hocevar won this season's race at Kansas Speedway.
