Austin Dillon brings No. 3 back to NASCAR Xfinity Series

Austin Dillon is bringing the No. 3 Chevrolet back to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a double-duty weekend.

According to a press release, the Richard Childress Racing entry will return this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Dillon will compete in the Xfinity Series for the first time since the 2023 season. He will have Boot Barn as his primary partner as part of a partnership extension.

The Xfinity Series race takes place on Saturday, May 24, at 4:30 p.m. ET. CW will provide coverage.

Boot Barn also announced it will sponsor Dillon's No.3 Cup Series car during the June trip to Mexico City. He, Boot Barn, and Richard Childress Racing will celebrate the trip south by hosting western lifestyle influencers.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to continue RCR's relationship with Boot Barn, and I can't wait to get back behind the wheel in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway," Dillon said in a press release.

"Charlotte has been good to me, and I'm thankful to Boot Barn for allowing me the opportunity to help showcase their brand within motorsports and beyond."

Dillon previously revealed on an episode of the "Door, Bumper, Clear" podcast that he would pull double duty at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This announcement provided the crucial details about the car number and the sponsor.

The No. 3 is a special entry for Richard Childress Racing due to the obvious ties to Dale Earnhardt. For Dillon, in particular, it's the number he has taken to victory lane in all three national NASCAR series.

Dillon has nine Xfinity wins. Three were in the No. 3, four were in the No. 33, and two were in the No. 2. He also won the 2013 Xfinity championship and the 2011 Truck championship in the No. 3.

The veteran driver's string of success in the Xfinity Series includes a dominant season sweep at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2015. Dillon started from the pole in both races, and he led a combined 224 laps at the 1.5-mile track before winning.

The spring race, in particular, featured him leading 163 laps before beating Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Regan Smith, and Bubba Wallace to the checkered flag.
