Jimmie Johnson missed the cut for the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs in his last season as a full-time driver back in 2020, but the seven-time Cup champ went all out for throwback weekend at South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway, a.k.a. “The Track Too Tough to Tame.”

The Darlington throwback paint schemes honored such NASCAR legends as Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, and Junior Johnson, and while Johnson honored Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. with a special scheme on his No. 48 Chevy, he went a step further by actually dressing up like the NASCAR greats.

As you can see from the above picture, Johnson donned The King’s famous feathered hat and the iconic Gargoyles sunglasses that The Intimidator used to wear. And these weren’t just cheap knockoffs, either. Jimmie got legit Gargoyles shades from Dale Sr.?s sister, Cathy, and the signed hat from Petty himself. How awesome is that?!

While Johnson may not have had much to race for in the NASCAR playoffs’ kickoff race, the guy definitely showed up in style!
