John Portman, who designed the Renaissance Center that is home to General Motors' headquarters, has died at age 93.

The New York Times reported that Portman died in Atlanta on Friday, though they didn't report the cause of death.

One of Portman's more memorable designs was the Renaissance Center in Detroit. It has seven buildings that are interconnected on the riverfront, and the first phase of the building was tallest hotel in the world at the time. It's still the the tallest building in Michigan.

The Renaissance Center is still the world headquarters for General Motors, and its design is one of the most noticeable in American architecture.

Portman also designed the Peachtree Center in Atlanta and the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco among many other buildings.
