An illegal street race in California ended in tragedy when one driver lost control of his vehicle, leaving seven cars damaged and one person dead.

Witnesses told CBS Los Angeles they noticed two vehicles weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds.
Police say Anthony Lopez, 38, was driving a BMW at a high rate of speed before losing control of the vehicle. Lopez's vehicle collided with another car driven by a 62-year-old man, which started a chain of events involving five other cars.

The 62-year-old man was killed in the accident. The other street racer reportedly fled the scene, though witnesses claim they copied the plates of the second driver.

Other drivers involved reported minor or no injuries.
