Lamborghini, Tesla Cybertruck face off in drag race

What is faster off the line? A Tesla Cybertruck or a Lamborghini? Two people tried to answer this question with a brief drag race on a public street.

Several people captured the race as it unfolded. A blue Lamborghini pulled up to a Cybertruck on Leesburg Pike (Virginia State Route 7). The driver revved the engine and then the two vehicles pulled away.

The Cybertruck pulled out to a quick lead before the drivers of the two vehicles hit the brakes. They could not continue the race due to stopped traffic ahead.

"EV's will always be unmatched when it comes to torque output," one person said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Others weighed in and took sides after the race.

One person said that the Lamborghini driver was just "warming up" while another said that the driver was not using launch control. Some social media users just said that the race doesn't count because the two vehicles only reached about 35 mph.

"I can already see the smile on Elon's face," another person added.

According to Car and Driver, the electric truck can go from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds due to the 834 horsepower generated by three electric motors. This is at a curb weight of 6,901 pounds.  The Cybertruck also hits 100 mph in 6.9 seconds.

Compare that to different Lamborghini models. The Huracan can go from zero to 60 mph in between 2.4 and 3.4 seconds depending on year. The Aventador goes from zero to 60 mph in between 2.5 and 2.9 seconds.

Obviously, several factors could have played a role in the outcome of this "drag race." The experience of both drivers matters, as do the reaction times. A quick test on a public street filled with other vehicles is not overly scientific.

A fun test would be to put both vehicles on an airport runway, "Top Gear" style, to see a full quarter-mile race.
