It's not everyday that you get a gun pulled directly on you while waiting at an intersection. But, as the above video shows, August 16, 2017 just so happened to be Washington motorcyclist Alex Randall's unlucky day, as he not only got threatened with a weapon, but had it done to him by an officer of the law.
More than a year after the incident, Randall will finally be getting compensated for the harrowing experience to the tune of $65,000.
As Randall's GoPro video shows, King County (Washington) Sheriff's detective Richard Rowe brandishes a Glock at him, and, clearly pretty worked up over Randall's allegedly reckless driving, threatens, "I'm going to knock you off this bike," all without providing a badge or even identifying himself.
After the video ended up going viral, the King County Sheriff's office conducted an investigation into Rowe's behavior and Randall filed a civil suit against Rowe and the county. Rowe was given a five-day suspension in April, while the lawsuit was settled for $65,000.

As part of the settlement, the King County Sheriff has agreed to issue a Special Order by the end of this week to implement an interim policy clarifying that "aiming a weapon is a use of force and should be reported within the Sheriff's office subject to further consideration and evaluation by persons higher up in the chain of command," followed by a permanent policy that all such incidents must be reported for review.
"This was a terrifying incident for me, and I hope that this settlement will prevent this from happening to anyone else," Randall said in a statement. "I'm glad that something good has come from what happened to me, and I look forward to continuing to volunteer my efforts to improve community relations with our police."
It's great that Randall was able to get paid for his troubles, but you have to think that Rowe deserves more than just a five-day suspension for this.
Now, I'm not sure how he was able to rise through the ranks to detective without learning to not just up and point your gun at people without any sort of cause, but I'm guessing that if he hasn't learned that by now, it's going to take a lot more than five days to get it through his head.
