Let's face it: Even though most folks may be too prideful to admit it, the Mazda Miata is a fantastic car for those that love driving. Even with the factory four-cylinder engine, there's just something about these cars that brings a smile to people's faces. It's cheap, lightweight, and, in a way, it feels like you're driving a go-kart on the streets.
Haters of the Miata usually hate for one of two reasons. It's either too "girly," or it's too slow. However, the car in the video above is neither of those things. This maniac of an owner decided to ditch the 1.8-liter engine, and instead transplanted a massive 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine inside. The result is exactly what you would expect: Pure chaos.
Let's put things in perspective. We're talking about a chassis that weighs 2,300 pounds, paired with a V8 producing over 700 horsepower. If you couldn't tell by the hole in the hood, it doesn't particularly fit in the engine bay very well, but who cares? At the time this video was released, it was the only one in existence, and you can hear all the details of the build from the owner himself in the earlier parts of this video. To say this car destroys tires is an understatement. Once he finally puts it in gear and mashes the throttle, it only takes a matter of seconds for the entire parking lot to be consumed in a cloud of dense smoke. This isn't your typical first gear burnout either. The driver is starting off in fourth gear, and he manages to keep the tires spinning entirely through sixth gear. At this point, wheel speed is over 200 MPH, and that's just ridiculous.
I don't even want to think about the hours of research this owner had to do in order to make this a reality, but I'm sure glad to see the final result. After all that hard work, there's really no better place to show it off than with the guys over at Hoonigan.
