For all the road rage that happens on American highways on a daily basis, very few of these altercations actually deescalate into serious physical violence. Sure, you might get some loud yelling and maybe even a little bit of light shoving, but only every once and a while will you get an incident that turns into a full-on pummeling session, like the one shown in the above video.
On Friday, May 17, a ground-and-pound throwdown occurred on the side of a Chattanooga, Tennessee highway next to a pulled-over pickup truck and Jeep. Needless to say, it made for quite the explosive local news story.
Per WATE 6:
A video taken by Ashley McKenzie of the incident along I-24 on Fridays shows the two exchanging blows just feet away from oncoming traffic.
Alexander Nicolou and Joseph Koehler were both arrested.
Nicolou was charged with not wearing a seatbelt. Koehler was charged with assault.
McKenzie told WTVC, “All four lanes were stopped because people were getting out of their cars and they ran over to break it up.”
If these two misguided brawlers intended on causing a scene, they definitely succeeded. This looked more like a fight you’d see go down in a UFC octagon as opposed to a traffic disagreement between two strangers in the middle of oncoming traffic. I mean, you know a fight’s serious when people not only stop their cars, but actually get out to try and break the whole thing up.
As we’ve seen time and time again, road rage is never worth it. Ever. It always does more harm than good. At its worst, it could end in a tragic fatality. Thankfully, that didn’t happen in this case, but let’s hope that the criminal charges as well as the embarrassment provided by this amateur video footage was enough to serve as a successful reality check for both parties.
