Have you ever been hanging out at the beach, just enjoying your day, when, all of the sudden, a plane comes out of nowhere and makes emergency landing only feet away from you? Odds are probably not, although, if that is something that happened to you, hopefully it didn’t ruin going to the beach forever. It would probably make for a crazy story to tell at parties, though. So, there’s that.
Several beach goers in Ocean City, Maryland definitely will have crazy stories to tell, after witnessing an emergency landing on July 16. After watching the footage, it’s a miracle that nobody ended up getting hurt.
On July 16, 2019 at about 6:30pm, on 23rd street, a plane came skidding into an emergency landing executed by 23-year-old Trevor Deihl from Reedville, Virginia. He left on his journey and was just one mile away from the airport in OC when he began to have mechanical malfunctions and needed to emergency land. He exited the plane immediately and was unharmed!
Baltimore native Graysen Levy captured the wild incident on video, which, even though it isn’t long, shows how a seemingly nice, sunny day almost turned into a disastrous nightmare scenario.
“We were just in the water five minutes prior, got out to dry, turned around to see a plane skimming the water into an emergency landing,” Levy told ABC 15. “The kid got out safely and the plane fully submerged into the water afterwards.”
Props to the pilot for improvising and pulling off a pretty smooth landing, considering the circumstances. That wouldn’t be easy for anyone to pull off, much less a 23-year-old. Here’s hoping that was the first and last time he’ll have to do anything like that ever again.
