INDIANAPOLIS -- NASCAR has revised the schedule at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after inclement weather disrupted on-track sessions on Friday afternoon.
NASCAR Cup Series teams will now have an abbreviated practice session on Saturday afternoon instead of heading straight into qualifying. They will see how their cars handle Indianapolis Motor Speedway in what will only be the Gen 7 car's second trip to the historic track.
The Cup Series teams had originally set out to with the intention of completing 50 minutes of practice at the 2.5-mile track. However, lightning delayed the start. The rain then washed out the session. The teams had no opportunities to test out the new tire combination.
The original schedule also only featured single-car qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Now, teams will have an abbreviated chance to shake down their cars and see if they need to make any of the few possible adjustments after NASCAR revised the schedule.
The Xfinity Series schedule, however, remains unchanged. The second-tier series teams had an opportunity to practice on Friday. Connor Zilisch led the way with a 54.013-second lap.
The Xfinity teams will just go straight into qualifying on Saturday afternoon. They will set the lineup for Saturday evening's race.
