Tesla’s latest software update features new safety protocols which Tesla’s founder and CEO Elon Musk assures could save lives. Once the Autopilot autonomous driving system has been engaged, it will allow continuous use of the system as long as the sensors on the steering wheel regularly detect contact from the driver’s hands. But, as you’ll see in this first hand look at the update, after a few minutes without input from the driver, the system will repeatedly attempt to draw your attention and require you to place your hands on the wheel. If these prompts are ignored, the system will disable Autopilot and pull the car over, in addition to disabling the use of the system for the remainder of your drive.
