Sometimes you can do everything right and still end up in the wall

This poor soul's track prepped 1991 BMW 318is was a thing of beauty. Until the brakes failed without warning during a track day, sending the owner and a track instructor flying into a wall.

The owner is named Greg, and he explained everything in a post on the r3vlimited forum:

Thirty minutes into the session without any warning the brakes were gone and I had no pedal pressure as I entered the braking zone into turn 8. I did my best to try to get the car turned and scrub off some speed and not hit head on as I was taking the turn off line. The rest is history. My instructor and myself walked away with no injuries.

Before this terrible incident, he had done everything right, building up his car and attending track events to hone his skills to work his way up to his goal of getting into competitive racing. This crash was a tragic end to the car he had poured hours into, but he is determined to not let it stop him from chasing his dreams.

I can now express how heartbroken I am to have lost this car that has been my canvas for many years. That being said I will take what I can from her and build a stronger, safer, and faster car. I don't want to jump the gun and hop right into someone's project but I am itching to get back on the track asap.

Those "safer" remarks are the words of a man who knows how truly lucky he is. Older cars just don't stand up very well to these scary impacts.
