When the Porsche 918 Spyder broke the 7 minute barrier and beat the Viper ACR around the ring by 15 seconds, it was hard to imagine the time being beaten. But here we are: The Lamborghini Huracán Performante smashed the Porsche’s record by five seconds, posting a 6:52:01 lap time.

Five seconds on a lap lasting nearly seven minutes may not seem like much, but at these speeds, each second is an eternity, even when stretched out over approximately 13 miles.

The fact that the Porsche 918’s record stood for four years is a testament to how impossible these times really are. Hitting about 190 mph on the long straight certainly helped.
