The Mercedes SLS AMG emerged onto the automotive market carrying quite a reputation. It carved streets like a mid-engined supercar. It boasted a beastly V8, and it had GT-inspired styling and shape. But with the seven-speed transmission ripped straight from a Ferrari 458 which Mercedes could not repair, its fatal flaw was that each time the transmission died, which was unfortunately all too frequent, Ferrari had to build a new one from scratch. That doesn't mean we can't still celebrate the life of an iconic car, from the drawing board to the showroom floor, and all the hard work it took to get there.
