The unmistakable Ford GT was born out of Ford’s insatiable drive to dethrone Ferrari from their comfortable seat atop the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For years, the Italian supercar manufacturer had gone relatively unchallenged by other teams in the prestigious race event, and when Ford was denied the ability to purchase a Ferrari to reverse engineer it, Ford’s design team was forced to come up with their own supercar to match, then beat Ferrari at its own game. The short film “The 24 Hour War” highlights the struggles of both companies as their rivalry turned up the heat in the racing world, and became more deadly than daring.
