Team Penske is going to give Ryan Blaney every opportunity in 2018.
Adam Stern with Sports Business Journal tweeted that Penske is buying a NASCAR charter from Roush Fenway Racing for the 2018 season to use on Blaney's #12 Menards Ford.
Adding the charter from Roush Fenway means Penske will have three guaranteed cars in every race, adding Blaney to the tandem of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. Blaney had a stellar 2017 with one win and fourteen top-10 finishes in the Cup series while also pulling in two wins in thirteen races in Xfinity.
Stern points out that Roush's sale to Penske keeps the charter within the Ford family. Roush Fenway only needed two of its three charters for 2018 with Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. running in Cup this season. They may pick up a third charter down the road if they decide to run three cars.
By selling one of its charters to @Team_Penske, @roushfenway keeps the charter in the @FordPerformance stable. @roushfenway could still expand back to a third Cup car, as the team feels it would be able to buy another charter if/when that time comes.
