This year's Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway is the 30th anniversary of Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s victory at the track, and Richard Childress Racing is honoring the late NASCAR legend with throwback color schemes for Ryan Newman and Austin Dillon.

"This year's the 30th anniversary of Dale Sr.'s Southern 500 win in the No. 3 Wrangler car," owner Richard Childress said. "To honor those moments, we came up with something special for the fans."

Dillon, who drives the No. 3 car, said that color scheme was "cool" and recognized its history with Earnhardt Sr.

"That car and scheme is legendary," Dillon said. "Darlington's all about the throwbacks, and Ryan and I are throwing it way back for this year's Southern 500."

Newman, who drives the No. 31 car, said that car had plenty of great moments and "did it all."

"It's one of the coolest schemes I've ever seen," Newman said.

Darlington will have several tributes to Earnhardt Sr. for the 30th anniversary of his win at the raceway, and it should be a special weekend for the drivers and NASCAR fans.

The Southern 500 is Sunday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
