Penske Racing could be looking to add a third team for the 2018 season, and they reportedly have their sights set on Ryan Blaney to highlight that team.

Despite not winning any races, the 23-year-old Blaney has been one of the top drivers this season. He is currently ranked No. 13 in the NASCAR Cup Series standings as a member of Wood Brothers Racing.

Blaney initially signed with Team Penske in 2012 for a few races before racing more for Wood Brothers Racing.

Blaney told Claire B. Long on SiriusXM NASCAR that he's aware he might be a member of Team Penske next season.

"That's something that I've heard ever since I got to Team Penske," Blaney said. "They want to start a third team and they're just waiting on the right time to do it. I've been really lucky to be with such a great team like--them giving me my shot in 2012 and being with them ever since. Even though I drive the Wood Brothers car, I'm still with the Penske group."

Blaney said driving with Wood Brothers is "almost like a third Penske car," and he said the two teams share information.

Blaney said he is still having fun racing with Wood Brothers, but he isn't sure what his future holds with either team.

If Penske Racing is wanting to add a third team, Blaney would be at the top of their list. He's one of the top young drivers in the sport, and he has an outside chance of making the playoffs.
