A by-product of the massive 16-car crash at Talladega has caught the attention of NASCAR.

NBCSports.com reports that NASCAR is investigating why the left front tire came off of Kyle Busch's car during the crash. Watching the video of the pile-up, Busch's car goes to the bottom left of the screen in the grass. Then you see a tire bouncing away from the car, something that's not supposed to happen.

Out of concern for safety, NASCAR mandates that the left and right spindles on race cars have to be connected to the front sub-frame by two fiber cable tethers. NASCAR has taken the tire back to its R&D center in Concord, North Carolina.
