A penalty on the NASCAR points leader gives hope to others in Bristol

Martin Truex Jr. got hit with an outside tire violation in the second stage of the race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The penalty required Truex to drive through the pits, losing valuable time and raising the risk of getting caught up in a wreck as he has a lot of cars in front of him.

Martin currently leads the NASCAR points standings and needs no help making the playoffs, but this could postpone his likely regular season championship celebration if he can't make up enough ground before the end of the race.
